NOEL KELLY’S arrival at Leinster House on Tuesday came as a great disappointment to Goldhawk given the blaze of advance publicity about the Mr Big of super agents for the stars and what acquaintances described as his appetite for “the best suits and the best cars”.

Until the RTÉ mega-media story burst in late June, Noel Kelly had been telling friends and acquaintances in his inimitably modest style about the new car he had been expecting to receive on the first day of July, making it a 232 reg. And the make of car was definitely not a Renault.

No, friends say Kelly had ordered a Porsche 911 Carrera from the Porsche Centre, Dublin, owned by Joe Duffy Motors, and was supposed to have taken delivery of it a fortnight ago.

The Carrera model does not come cheap and the price range begins at €188,940. However, Noel does not normally do things by half (ask Ryan) and a top-of-the-range Porsche Carrera can cost as much as €272,040, although he surely negotiated a discount.

Unfortunately, Noel Kelly dashed expectations by turning up on foot at the Oireachtas hearings, revealing a fine sense of public modesty and restraint.
